2. Running Profile:
When/How did you start running?
When I was 11....and then again when I was 38 after 23 years playing ultimate frisbee...one day I thought to myself, "gee, it might be kinda fun to run a marathon"....but what did I know!
When/How did you join CSU?
Richard Brown did it....1998. I spent the winter training for the Boston marathon alone on a plan of a book. Richard trains at the same gym I do and
he hooked me up with the CSU bus and the track. After one track workout I was hooked. Good thing he told me about that 'number' thing they do at the
Boston Marathon too (three weeks before Boston!!!! seriously!). I thought you could just show up!What is your favorite race distance?

What are some of your favorite training routes?
Fresh Pond (dirt loop and golf course), Ahlington Hills, Trails in Lincoln
What is your training like (weekly mileage, specific workouts)?
Avg 45 mi year round. The usual week: Tuesday track, workout to suit goal Thursday Tempo, same 1 Long weekend day. 2-3 other easy days ALWAYS at least recovery day off per week
What running achievement(s) are you most proud of:
The fact that I do it. It is so easy to write it off as indulgent or a 'waste of time' but I love it and it is a very meaningful part of my life
What are your current training goals?
Get some mental therapy post-Boston.... get healthy, work on 5 and 10k speed
and figure out how to enjoy running forever.
3. Other Activities, Hobbies, and Interests
What other sports/activities do you enjoy besides running?
Biking, ultimate Frisbee, yoga
If you couldn't run, what sport/activity would you do instead?
Run backwards...I would probably take up swimming and power yoga
What are some of your non-athletic hobbies or interests?
Playing the Tuba, French Horn, growing vegetables (tomatoes and eggplants a
specialty), spending time with and teaching my kids, writing, thinking,
breathing, dancing. I also work with a theater improv group called
Truestory Theater.
What non-running achievement(s) are you most proud of:
Getting paid to listen to music all day!!
What are some of your non-running goals/resolutions? :
Learning to dance, learn to write better, just learn and take risks in life.
I enjoy teaching and am going to coach a charity marathon group. I want to
write a play about fatherhood and divorce as well.

What do you like most about CSU?
The wealth of experience and good friendly advice. That we get it done with the coach-by-committee approach
What changes would you make to improve CSU?
More recruiting....grow the roster some
What race would you most recommend to others? Why?
Love the Cape Cod Marathon course. My first Boston was a total thrill.
What race would you least recommend to others? Why?
Bay State Marathon....I mean who wants to be suffering AND bored at the same time. OY! And then there's Mt Washington....can you say SLOW!!! Can you say WALK!!!
What's your favorite piece of advice for injury prevention?
Do SOME cross training and/or light weights. Give yourself enough time to recover.
What advice would you give to newbie runners?
Listen to your body, to experienced runners' stories about themselves and read about the sport.

Favorite food?
YES.....chocolate, sushi, eggplant, cherry tomatoes from my garden, ice cream....I mean I LIKE food.
Favorite song?
Oh my god you must be joking. Let's try my top 1000 and then YOU pick one.
Favorite movie?

Favorite restaurant?
Ma Mere Pourcel in Dinan, France...or any one with awesome sushi.
6. Wildcard
What question we should have asked (and your answer)?
Favorite shoes: I rotate through 4-5 pairs regularly to keep my feet happier. Adidas Gazelles for training, Adidas Taper for racing 5 mi and up, Adidas concerto for track....all extinct.
