Since its founding in 1962 by Sara Mae and Larry Berman, the Cambridge Sports Union has been one of New England's premier athletic clubs. The 250 women and men who make up the club range in experience and ability from beginners to nationally competitive athletes.

The running section organizes regular workouts for its members, coordinates team racing activities, and puts on a number of social events throughout the year. For those who are either new to the running scene or the New England area, CSU's friendly, collegial style fosters an excellent environment in which to meet training partners with similar goals and abilities.

March 30th @ 8:00am --- Group Fun Run is the Annual CSU SOUP Run from Hopkinton to Newton
What is the Soup Run?

The Soup Run is one of CSU's longer traditions (both in distance run and years held).

It is an opportunity to run the first 18-20 miles of the Boston Marathon course with support along the way (you'll have to manufacture the cheering crowds in your mind). Runners will be carpooled to the marathon start in Hopkinton and follow the route back to Newton. Water and support will be supplied along the way. If you wish to drink something other than water, please bring your desired sports drink (and we will hand it out to you, if you like). Those wishing to run a shorter distance are welcome to run (but please be flexible with the car-pooling/pick-up arrangements). Depending on the weather, bring "layers" for the run (we will collect cast-offs). And be sure to bring a towel and warm, dry clothing to change in to after the run.

Lastly, please bring a food item to share after the run. Warm casseroles/soups and/or baked goods are encouraged.

Can't or don't want to run? Drivers and support crew needed!
If you would like to help transport runners to the start, or provide a car that seats 5 or more passengers, we would love to hear from you -- your help is needed!

CSU Soup Run Details & RSVP
Sunday, March 30, 8:00 AM sharp! (we would like to send out car pools at 8:15)
Hosts: Pat Robinson & Henry Finch

Please RSVP for more information on location and so the hosts can get a head count for car-pooling pat@csurun.org

Sunday, March 9th Group Fun Run
This week on Sunday we will be running on CommAve. The CSU Group Fun Run will start at 9:00am at the Newton Fire station on CommAve. There is plenty of parking available on the surrounding streets.

The routes can be expanded from a basic 8 mile out an back to longer distances by adding on the Reservoir or coming back on Beacon Street. If you are planning on joining this Sunday Group Run, please email back to Cat@csurun.org so we don't leave without you and let me know the distance you want to run. Also -- afterwards we are planning on a refueling at Johnny's Luncheonette in Newton Centre. http://www.johnnysluncheonette.com/
It is also ok to come out for breakfast even if you did not run.

******Just remember that at 2:00AM Sunday morning turn your clocks ahead one hour.

The run will start at 9:00 but if you show up and no one is there don't assume that everyone has left without you, you may have forgot to change your clock.

Happy Running!

Womens' Triad 5K's -- Save the dates
All women interested in running the Women's 5K Triad Race Series this year ---- here are the race dates for your calendars. We always have a great time at these races!

Granted they can be tricky to get to given the weekday dates and start 6:30+/- pm start times; however, that is where the car-pooling and team logistics come into play. If you are interested - please drop me an email so I can check in closer to the race dates to finalize teams and car pools.

1. Wednesday, May 14th:19th Evelyn's Run for the Roses 5K,Salsbury, MA
2. Wednesday, June 18th: 15th Louise Rossetti Women's 5K, Beverly, MA
3. Friday, July 11th: 27th Berna's Great Legs for Women, Lowell, MA

Everyone's favorite of the series is definitely the Louise Rossetti which is a spectacular and fast 5k course. So even if you don't want to commit to a three race series --- just run on June 18th. But if you do run all three - they give pretty good race swag for completing the series!

Thanks,
Catherine Cagle
